The Scorpio Dynamic - Our Inner Basement

The on-going Uranus/Pluto square (through 2015), means that dealing with Scorpio lessons is going to be highlighted in the next few years.

Scorpio, and its associated planet Pluto, reveal the deep programming in our subconscious that sabotages our best intentions. The Scorpio/Pluto process involves brutal honesty so that we can weed out our fear and anger programming. Our goal is to become authentic and to live in genuine integrity. When our view of the truth is distorted, this 'inner basement' pair makes us get real. They subject us to deep transformational healing, through penetrating revelations and clarity. This evolutionary dynamic makes it possible for us to release sabotaging conditioning, so that we can connect deeply with our truth, operate from our pure soul essence, and excel in life.

Evolution and Revolution

Uranus, the planet of revolution, precipitates quick, shocking changes. Uranus is the 'wake-up' planet that acts though surprises, accidents, magic and miracles. Uranus pops the balloons of illusion and sets off the 'get real and deal with reality' alarms. Uranus dramatically gets our attention.

Pluto's (Scorpio) impact is much more subtle. To deal with Pluto, we must be attentive to what is going on deep in our psyche. Pluto, the planet of slow evolution, specializes in exposing our dark side, the abuse of power, and the fears that stand in the way of experiencing love, peace, and happiness.

Uranus in Aries focuses our attention on individual freedoms, and personal awakening and liberation. Pluto in Capricorn uncovers what is preventing us from being our own authority. The Capricorn archetype is about self-mastery, who we are in the world, and each being the artist and the architect of our own lives. Accountability, integrity, and the grand play of cause and effect (karma) are key Pluto/Scorpionic themes.

While Pluto is in Capricorn through 2024, we are each part of a massive overhaul of economic, political and social institutions. The intolerability of gross inequality, exploitation, corruption and all forms of abuse will precipitate revolutionary protest, and necessitate reforms and the restructuring of our collective institutions.

Denial Can't Last

DENIAL has dominated our personal and political psyche for a very long time. That is why humans and the planet are in the current state of affairs. Since the 2008 economic downturn (Pluto in Capricorn), both the majority of the population and the ruling elites have hoped for a quick fix, that would get us out of the mess that has taken us a long time to create. Despite the obvious evidence that something is seriously wrong with our economic and political systems (and backed by a naïve public), those in power have attempted to maintain and restore the status quo. The hope is that we can avoid structural reforms. The truth is we can't and this fact will become more and more obvious over the next few years.

Breakdowns and Awakenings

Breakdowns and awakenings are going to be themes impacting the collective psyche for many years. As the ever more frequent shocks occur, more people may come to their senses and admit that the old systems are not working, will not work, and must be replaced with something more just, equitable, and functional.

However, everyone is not going to all of a sudden wake-up and act consciously and rationally. There is going to be a lot more irrationality, insanity, and craziness. The Uranus in Aries factor means that more and more people are going to demand their fair share, be willing to fight for political freedom and economic equity, and refuse to be victims of structural violence and suppression. The process may not necessarily be easy or peaceful.

In terms of the general public, it is going to take some time to upgrade the current state of tribal consciousness, which:

  1. reacts in a herd mentality,
  2. often with hysteria,
  3. generally obsesses about one crisis at a time,
  4. without considering interconnected implications,
  5. is impatient and judgmental, and
  6. indulges in reactive/victim/polarized thinking, instead of thoughtful analysis about workable long-term solutions.

The Uranus/Pluto dynamic reminds us that the problem lies, both in the level of consciousness of planetary citizens and in the economic and political systems that create and make problems worse, instead of working for the public good.

Triggers - Uranus Square Pluto

Uranus and Pluto are seriously challenging our inner and outer realities. When evolution (Pluto) and revolution (Uranus) interact, transformation happens, and denial and suppression become impossible. Shocks, disruptions, radical change, stress, and disturbances dominate the collective psyche.

The transformational dynamics mean that the ruling elites will no longer be able to ignore the demands for change. Uranus in Aries (the general public claiming personal and economic rights) will showcase the breakdown of economic, social and political systems (Pluto in Capricorn). However, the reaction of those in power (Pluto in Capricorn) is to do whatever they can to maintain and protect their power. Their 'reforms' won't work, and will just make things worse. As things break down, the old guard is going to stubbornly cling to the status quo, and espouse the virtues of ideals that in reality are simply justifications and lies. They will attempt to cover up their abuse, greed, and crimes by appealing to 'the good old days' when they could get away with transgressions that created the current mess.

When the outer planets change signs - Pluto (November 2008), Uranus (May 2010), and Neptune (April 2011) - we feel the shift, but we don't immediately respond with appropriate strategic action. It takes years for the power structure to comprehend that old strategies no longer work. If the same people, methods, belief systems and agendas are still in place, nothing much is going to change until collectively we become more conscious.

Pragmatism

The on-going Pluto/Uranus square is the first square in the cycle, which marks the transition from new ideas into tending the sprouting plants that we seeded in the spring (the conjunction in the 60's). At the beginning of any cycle, we are naïve and idealistic (60's). In this second phase (now), we have to adapt, to grow, to learn, to find solutions, and to mature into adult ways of handling the challenges that face us in the physical world.

Although we can hope for a mass awakening, what we need to focus on is maintaining our own sanity, and working on our own inner transformation. As we become more empowered, we tap our gifts and are able to make our personal contributions. Many people working individually, and collectively, toward the common good in their locality can make a big difference where it counts - in individual lives. Pragmatism is our guiding theme in the next few years.

Death and Rebirth Process

It is critical to keep in mind, that in Scorpio/Pluto territory we experience different levels and facets of a death/rebirth process. The planetary interactions in the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) initiate new beginnings, but before a new beginning can move into manifestation, we must release the past. Something must die for something new to be born.

The death process involves letting go of relationships, situations, beliefs, and conditioning that no longer serve us. So be patient and kind to yourself as you release, grieve, and gather your courage to move into uncharted territory.

Kundalini Yoga - Opening Your Heart

While the Sun shines in Scorpio, we are invited to be honest with our emotions and feelings, and honor them as messages from our soul. Listen and feel deeply. All pain is a call for love.

To open your heart to yourself do Praan Adhaar Kriya, which is found on page 159 of Transitions to a Heart-Centered World 2nd Edition.

Sitting in Easy Pose, with a straight spine, keeping the arms relaxed, bend the elbows and raise the forearms until they meet, fingers interlaced in Venus Lock, palms in, at heart level. Press the pads of the thumbs together and keep the eyes 1/10 open.

Inhale deeply, and exhale completely as the mantra Wahe Guru is chanted in monotone 16 times:

Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru,
Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru,
Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru
Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru, Wahe Guru

Start with 11 minutes, and gradually increase week by week to half an hour. Stay at 30 minutes for a while, and gradually work up to an hour. (Don't be fanatical!)
